About the Journal
The journal ARTIS OBSERVATIO - Allgemeine Zeitschrift für Kunstsoziologie und Soziologie der Künste profiles a broadly based, interdisciplinary, empirical and theoretical social science investigation of artistic and aesthetic phenomena. It seeks to bring 'art sociology' as a sociological perspective, which reflects on the cultural significance of artistic and aesthetic phenomena, into dialogue with 'sociology of the arts', which aims at the specifically sociological investigation of aesthetic-artistic phenomena. In this endeavor, it also sees itself as being compatible with social science issues from other scientific disciplines, such as art history, musicology, literary studies, cultural studies, ethnology, anthropology, media studies, etc. The explicit goal of the journal is to make visible the theoretical and methodological diversity of research in the field of 'art sociology' and 'sociology of the arts' and to offer researchers within these fields a place for exchange.
